Agreeing to these terms
These terms are an agreement between you and Saveverything (“we”, “us”) about your use of saveverything.org and anything connected to it (“Saveverything”). By creating an account, or by using Saveverything without one, you agree to them and to our Privacy Policy. If you do not agree, please do not use Saveverything.
Who can use Saveverything
- You must be at least 13 years old to have an account. If you are under 18, you need a parent or guardian’s permission, and they agree to these terms for you.
- Parents and guardians are welcome to upload photos and recordings of their younger children to their own accounts.
- Give your real name and an email address you control. Keep your password to yourself; you are responsible for what happens under your account.
- Tell us straight away at info@greenhatdevelopers.com if you think someone else has got into your account.
- You may not use Saveverything if we have suspended or closed your account before, or if the law does not allow you to.
What you upload stays yours
You keep every right you have in what you upload and write: photos, video, recordings, documents, stories, recipes, bios, family tree details, titles, descriptions and tags (“your content”). We do not claim ownership of any of it.
So that Saveverything can do its job, you give us permission to store your content, make copies of it (such as thumbnails, versions that play on phones, written transcripts and backups), and show it to the people you have shared it with. For anything you put in the public archive, that permission covers showing it to, and letting it be downloaded by, anyone. This permission is worldwide and free of charge, and lasts while your content is on Saveverything, plus the time it takes for deleted items and backups to be cleared, and any longer we must keep something by law.
What you promise about your content
- You own it, or you have permission from whoever does to upload and share it the way you do.
- Sharing it does not break anyone’s copyright, privacy or other rights, or the law.
- If it shows or describes living people in a private or sensitive way, you have their permission (or a parent’s, for a child) before sharing it beyond yourself.
What is not allowed
Do not upload, share or use Saveverything for any of these, whether an item is private, shared or public:
- Any sexual image or video of anyone under 18, or anything that sexualizes or exploits a child. We report it to the National Center for Missing & Exploited Children and to law enforcement, preserve it as the law requires, and close the account.
- Intimate or sexual images of anyone shared without their consent.
- Anything illegal, or that promotes or helps with a crime, terrorism, or violence.
- Threats, harassment, bullying, or content that attacks people for who they are.
- Someone else’s private information (such as home address, identity documents, medical or financial records) without their permission, especially in the public archive.
- Material that infringes someone’s copyright or other rights.
- Viruses, malware or other harmful software.
- Pretending to be someone else, or misleading people about who you are.
- Spam, advertising, or using Saveverything as general file hosting or distribution unrelated to family history, archives or personal records.
- Getting around our limits or security, getting into accounts or data that are not yours, overloading the site, or copying it in bulk with automated tools.
How we keep the site safe
To enforce these terms, respond to reports, protect people and follow the law, we may:
- look at any content on Saveverything, including private and shared items, and the information recorded about it (such as who uploaded it, when, and from what internet address). Site admins must record a reason before opening a private item, and every time they do is logged;
- use automated checks on uploads, such as comparing a file’s fingerprint with files already removed for breaking these rules;
- hide, remove or delete content, with or without notice;
- block a removed file from being uploaded again;
- suspend or close accounts, and end their sign-ins;
- preserve content and account information, and share it with the National Center for Missing & Exploited Children (CyberTipline) or law enforcement when the law requires or allows it.
We are not required to review what people upload, and we cannot promise to find everything that breaks these rules. Anyone who can see an item can report it with the “Report this item” link on its page. When we remove something of yours or suspend your account, we will usually tell you why, unless the law, an investigation or someone’s safety makes that unwise. If you think we got it wrong, email info@greenhatdevelopers.com.
Copyright
We respond to notices of copyright infringement under the U.S. Digital Millennium Copyright Act. How to send one, how to respond if your item was removed by mistake, and our policy on repeat infringers are on the Copyright page. We close the accounts of people who repeatedly infringe.
Storage, limits and cost
- Each account can store a set amount (shown on your library page); organizations have their own limit. We may change limits, and will give notice before lowering yours below what you already use.
- Saveverything is free today. If we ever offer paid plans, we will tell you first, and you will never be charged without agreeing to it.
- We may change, add or remove features, and may stop offering Saveverything. If we plan to shut it down, we will give at least 60 days’ notice by email so you can download everything first, except where the law or safety prevents it.
Deleting things and leaving
- Items you delete go to Recently Deleted for 30 days, where you can bring them back, and are then removed for good.
- You can download a copy of everything in your library at any time.
- You can change your name, email address and password, and delete your account, from Account settings. Deleting your account deletes your uploads, recipes and collections, except where we must keep something by law or it is part of an ongoing investigation. Family trees you belong to stay for their other members.
- Copies can remain in backups for a short time after deletion before they are overwritten.
- We may suspend or close your account if you break these terms, if the law requires it, or if your account has been unused for a long time (we will email you first in that case).
Keep your own copies too
We work hard to keep your files safe, but no service can promise nothing will ever be lost. Please keep your own copies of anything irreplaceable, and download your library now and then.
Disclaimers
Saveverything is provided “as is” and “as available”. As far as the law allows, we make no promises beyond those in these terms, including that it will always be available, error-free or secure, that files will never be lost, or that transcripts or other automatic results will be accurate. Content on Saveverything comes from its users, and we do not endorse it or vouch for its accuracy.
Limits on our liability
As far as the law allows, Saveverything and the people who run it are not liable for indirect, incidental, special, consequential or punitive damages, or for lost data, profits or goodwill, arising from your use of Saveverything or from content other people upload. Our total liability for any claim relating to Saveverything is limited to the greater of US$50 or what you paid us in the 12 months before the claim. Some places do not allow some of these limits, so they may not all apply to you.
Your responsibility to us
If someone makes a claim against us because of content you uploaded or your breaking these terms or the law, you agree to cover the reasonable costs and losses that result, as far as the law allows.
Disagreements and the law that applies
If something goes wrong, please email info@greenhatdevelopers.com first; most problems can be sorted out that way. These terms are governed by the laws of the United States and, where state law applies, by the laws of the state where you live. A court case about them may be brought in the courts where you live, and either of us may use small claims court where a claim qualifies. Nothing in these terms takes away rights you have under the law where you live that cannot be waived by agreement.
Changes to these terms
We may update these terms. If a change matters, we will tell you by email or on the site before it takes effect, and ask you to agree again. If you do not agree with a change, you can close your account. The date at the top shows when these terms last changed.
